Westley Richards Modele De Grande Lux HDL .600 Nitro Express double rifle. A most extraordinary rifle by any measure, serial 20307 has 25-inch barrels (.850-inch muzzle diameters, front sight assembly with folding hood/brass-beaded blade/flip-up moon, sling swivel stud, quarter rib with fixed and folding leafs marked 50/100, ejectors, doll's head extension, polished blue). ACTION: The scalloped action with Westley Richard's storied hand-detachable locks (duplicate serialed pair included) has a mechanical “beetle back” safety, extended tangs, rolled guard and an articulated trigger. STOCK: Coaxed from an exhibition-grade walnut blank set with superlative end-to-end figure, appointments include a horn forend tip, wrap checkering with partial double borders, drop points, scalloped pancake with shadow line, steel grip cap, steel butt with tapering comb extension, toe line stud, initial plate, timed screws and a hand-rubbed oil finish. ENGRAVING: Serving as canvas for a dangerous seven theme, embellishment anchors with a heavily-tusked bull elephant bull flaring from cover on the action bottom. A rhino moves along the guard, a helmeted Cape buffalo glowers from the cap, busts of the big cats ride either side of the chambers, the butt has a spectacular calling hippo and a croc rests on the extension. Intricate leafy vine surrounds the principals to full coverage, extends over the rib and tangs then reappears on the hood, rib and latch. The maker's name (4x) and “SAFE” are each highlighted in gold. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 14.8 pounds and the length-of-pull is 14.5 inches. CONDITION: Appears to be unfired since regulation with but faint suggestions of most careful handling. Mechanics are smooth and positive. CASE: A fine leather and oak case with felt lining and maker's label includes a replacement front sight and firing pins, snaps, tools (maitenance and cleaning), decocking block, solvent bottle and key.
