Deluxe Greifelt &Co. Suhl Drilling
Description: Very handsome Greifelt Deluxe drilling with 16 X16/ 8x57JR caliber barrels. Barrels are in perfect condition. Shotgun barrels are choked Full and Full. Barrel length is 25.5" long. This is an extractor gun.Triggers function as they should, including the single set trigger for the rifle barrel. The shotgun barrels firing pins were properly bushed as was done on high end guns. This gun was built for the German market. When you want to use the rifle barrel you push the tang Barrel selector on the top tang forward. The "S" (for Schrott or Shotgun in english) becomes covered and the rear sight will pop up. You will notice that there is a "K" now showing with the barrel selector on the top tang pushed forward...this is for "Kugel" (Bullet). The set trigger for the rifle barrel is the front trigger. You set it by pushing forward until it clicks. The safety is on the left side of the receiver. To engage the safety for the shot gun or rifle barrel selected, you simply push the lever up until it covers the ivory inlay. If the lever is horizontal and forward next to the cocking indicators, the gun is NOT on safe. It works this way for all three barrels. This drilling has a number of very nice features. It has the authentic Buffalo horn trigger gaurd and horn inlaid diamond points at the top of the pistol grip. It also has the horn wedge insert at the tip of the forearm. As was mentioneed above, the safety has an ivory inlay. The wood has a lot of figure and the checkering is is very fine and has not been recut or cleaned. It also has the makers horn buttplate and a horn grip cap. The cartridge trap will hold four rifle cartridges and it's latch spring is strong and still functions perfectly. There is a small chip on the edge of the fore arm wood on the right side, just forward of the receiver that does not really detract from the gun in my opinion. The wood also has a few press marks that could be ironed out by your gunsmith. Barrel blue is original and about 85+ % . No rust or pitting. The muzzle is engraved, indicating that the barrels were not shortened. All three barrel were built with Krupp Steel, NITRO proofed of course, and I believe the gun was finished in December of 1938. The engraving is very nice indeed! On the left side are three wild boars, two of which are Keilers (males) based on their physic and their tusks. On the right side are three Reh deer, a Buck and two does. The bottom of the reciever has nice scroll work and the "Greifelt & Co./ Suhl". The griffon is also on the bottom of the barrel lug closest to the Trigger bow. Overall its a very nicely built drilling and in great condition. The shotgun chambers are 70 MM (2 3/4"). The rifle barrel is perfect too. Ammo is available. Typically factory ammo for this will be loaded with the 196 gr round lead tipped bullet. However I have found that you can hand load for this caliber with 150 and 160 gr spitzers. The gun has never had claw mounts for a scope installed. I have used NECG to install German built claw mounts in the past and they have always done excellent work. The gun has a 14" length of pull. DAC is about 1.5" and DAH is 2.75". It weighs 7lbs and 9 ozs. You will pay the shipping to your FFL via FEDEX. ( remember ...fuel costs are up). It must ship to an FFL. A bank check or credit card can be used for payment with the 3% fee. If you have any questions, please let me know. Strength and Honor! SOLD |
