Description
Here is an exceptional pre-war Greifelt & Co. of Suhl over/under combination gun — a Bockbüchsflinte pairing a 12/65 shotgun barrel with a 5.6x50R Magnum rifle barrel, built to the highest standard of the German sporting gun trade. Fitted with a Zeiss Diatal-D 6×42 scope in period Suhl claw mounts and accompanied by a matching-numbered interchangeable shotgun barrel set, this is a complete, ready-to-hunt package representing the pinnacle of pre-war Suhl craftsmanship. The barrel rib is signed by R. Hämmerli & Cie. of Lenzburg, the Swiss importer, confirming this gun's documented export history. A rare and collectible find.
Action & Metalwork
The Greifelt boxlock action features a double locking mechanism with Kersten breech — the same robust crossbolt arrangement favored by the finest Suhl makers. The coin-finished receiver is fully engraved on both sides with hunting scenes and flowing scroll work. A single set trigger (Stecher) is fitted, allowing a crisp, light let-off for precise rifle shots. The top rib is fully guillochéd throughout its length, a mark of quality hand work.
Barrels
27" blued over/under barrels chambered 12/65 (2½") over 5.6x50R Magnum. The fully guillochéd rib carries two folding leaf rear sights for use with the rifle barrel. A Zeiss Diatal-D 6×42 scope is mounted in period Suhl claw mounts, removable and repeatable for zeroing. Bores are in excellent condition throughout. A couple of spots of light finish loss on the exterior. The included interchangeable shotgun barrel set (12/65, 30") is matching-numbered to the gun.
Stock
Walnut stock with pistol grip, Bavarian cheekpiece, and a slight hogback comb — the classic German hunting configuration optimized for scope use. Three-piece fore-end of matching walnut. Wood shows quality figure with fine hand checkering.

About Greifelt & Co.
The Greifelt family's gunmaking roots in Suhl trace to at least 1752, when the gunsmith Baltasar Greifelt was listed among those who lost his home and shop in a major fire. By 1889, Greifelt & Co. had been formally constituted as a partnership between master gunmaker Friedrich Wilhelm Greifelt and businessman Albert Emil Schlegelmilch. With the addition of a machine shop in 1917, the firm had grown into one of the largest mid-sized companies in Suhl. In the decades before World War II, Greifelt exported shotguns and rifles throughout the world, becoming one of the most respected names in German sporting arms. After the war, Greifelt & Co. — along with Merkel and J.P. Sauer & Sohn — was absorbed into the East German state manufacturing apparatus, ending its independent existence.
