Antique E. TUTSCHKE Hammer RIFLE-SHOTGUN Combination SxS Pinfire CAPE GUN
GERMAN Large Game HUNTING/SPORTING Gun
Description: Antique E. TUTSCHKE Hammer RIFLE-SHOTGUN Combination SxS Pinfire CAPE GUN GERMAN Large Game HUNTING/SPORTING Gun Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique “E. Tutschke” Double Barrel Side by Side Hammer Pinfire Cape Gun made circa the 1860s-70s in Germany. These were typically high-end hunting weapons that featured a side by side configuration with one barrel rifled and the other smooth. The hunter would use the rifled barrel to fire long range, precise shots against large game and use the smooth barrel loaded with buck shot or a slug for a quick follow up shot, especially on large and dangerous game, or the smooth bore could be loaded with shot to make it feasible to hunt fowl at the same time without carrying multiple guns. The gun has two triggers to allow either barrel as needed. Cape guns made in Germany, Belgium, and Austria usually have the rifled barrel on the right side (as is this one), while British made cape guns are usually reversed. These were supremely handy firearms that could also be used to defend the homestead or put game on the table. This gun was manufactured in the mid part of 19th century prior to the 1891 German proofing law. The overall condition is good. Original dark gray patina and damascus patterned barrels. The action is strong. Good bores, retain some shimmer with a frosted appearance. Smooth and rifled respectively. Markings are legible. Solid buttstock with a smooth finish and average handling wear. A this grain split is present to the rear of the barrel tang. Slightly oversized buttplate. Barrel rib signed “E. TUTSCHKE”. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels: 20-1/4 inches. Caliber: Estimated .605 (22 gauge) Shotgun with a .50 rifled barrel Length of Pull: 13-3/4 inches Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
