This listing is for a beautiful 16 gauge x 16 gauge 2 ¾” over 8x57 JR rifle barrel (.318 bore) German Drilling; Emil Kerner is the maker, in excellent condition.  This Kerner dates back to the 1930’s and is among the most detailed and finely crafted drillings made.  The includes the original, matching serial numbered scope. 

It is difficult to find a Drilling in this condition with the features of this beautiful example of German old-world craftsmanship for this price. This gun features deep cut engraving finished in French Gray on the receiver, chamber end of the barrels, the cartridge trap, screw heads, muzzle, and rib. All of the bores have mirror finishes, including the rifle bore which is in excellent condition. There are NO dings or dents in either of the shotgun barrels, which measure 26 1/2 inches long. The butt stock and fore end on this drilling were professionally restored (checkering is sharp and beautiful) with a hand-rubbed oil finish. The nicely figured butt stock and fore end are in excellent condition.  The butt stock also features a cartridge trap for holding extra rifle cartridges. The trigger guard is carved out of genuine buffalo horn. The length of pull (LOP) to the front trigger measures 13 7/8 inches. 

This drilling was mostly restored by Drilling and Double Rifle Smith Lee LeBas out of Carson City, Nevada.  Lee was the foremost drilling and double rifle gunsmith in the United States before taking over as the CEO of Mauser and Sauer Rifles (USA). Lee was also the Kriegoff factory authorized repair specialist in the US.  He went completely through the action of this gun and repaired and replaced any worn or broken parts to bring it up to 100%.  Lee re-blued the barrels using the original rust bluing process and completely rebuilt the scope and re-blued the scope tube to a like new condition.  He lengthened the 16 gauge chambers to accept 2¾ inch 16 gauge shells (commonly found in the US).  The scope has the traditional 3 post reticule.  Work like this takes time (almost two years) and it is incredibly difficult to find a qualified gunsmith with expertise in drillings. 

Since the test firing and sighting of the scope done by Lee LeBas, this drilling has been fired only three times, once each to test the rifle with iron sights, the rifle with scope and the shotgun barrels.  The scope is close to point of aim, but not fully regulated to any particular load.  The shotgun patterns well and the barrels are choked at FULL/FULL.

Everything on this drilling functions perfectly, including: the flip-up iron sight, the hammer cocking indicators, the set trigger, and the safety.   Included with this drilling are some traditional accessories; like a brand new leather sling, a case with sling, gold-plated 16 ga snap caps and a brand new muzzle cover/protector, a set of RCBS 8x57 Reloading Dies (including shell holder) set up for the .318 diameter bullet, 49 pieces of new Norma brass,  20 pieces of once-fired RWS brass, 18 pieces of once-fired S&B brass, 142 factory S&B 196 gr soft point ammunition, 48 custom made .318 diameter, soft point Spitzer bullets by DKT Inc., and 50 180gr, soft point bullets custom made by Hawk.  This is a complete package.
