This percussion Enfield cavalry carbine is one that was most likely issued to native troops. The 21"" approx. 64 caliber smooth bore barrel has a poor bore. There are no visible proof marks on the barrel. The metal overall is bright with areas of brown staining. The lock is marked 1862 over ENFIELD at the center with the military broad arrow issue stamp forward and crown over VR at the tail. The stock, with finish added, is good with no cracks or chips and a visible round issue stamp on the right butt. The sling bar is present but the ring is absent. An oiled cloth sling is present. This carbine was originally equipped with a captured ramrod which is absent. A standard ramrod is in its place. The brass furniture is very good. The action functions correctly. If this carbine could only talk!
