British Enfield 1853 Pattern “Officer’s” Model .577 caliber rifle. Stunning British Enfield 1853 Officer’s model rifle. Lock plate is dated 1861 and is stamped London Arms Co. These rifles were some of the best quality Enfield rifles that were acquired by the south. Wood is gorgeous on this rifle, cartouche is sharp and is dated 1861. Rifle has a beautiful checkering on the wrist and forearm. Metal is a gray patina. Rifle has original hammer face protector and chain. Butt plate has the name “Henry C. Rodgers” inscribed on it. This name does come up as a private with Wright’s Georgia Cavalry Co. 12. Georgia did get a supply of 1,100 pattern 1853’s from London Arms Co. on October 8th, 1861. This is an extraordinary rifle that is in beautiful condition, these are getting harder to find!
