British Lee-Metford Mk. I Rifle 303 British Description: Serial #4965A, .303 British, 30 1/4" barrel with a very good bore that has dark freckling within the grooves. This is an 1897 dated rifle that has an overall mellow plum-brown patina on the metal with dark gray fading along the barrel and high edges. The bolt is correct, but numbered to a different gun, and the integral dust cover has a rich, arsenal reapplied blue finish remaining. The receiver and barrel have crisp double “R" condemnation proofs (denoting suitability for drill purpose only), and the volley sights are still present. The walnut stock and forend have an old, added military oil finish over numerous small handling marks and blemishes, but unchipped edges along the clearing rod channel and clear markings including: a large, overstruck “DP" (Drill Purpose) stamp on the right side of the butt, a further “DP" stamp on the underside of the forend just ahead of the rear swivel (to which the original Mk. I magazine is chained), two further double “R" condemned marks straddling the wrist socket, and double arrow deaccession stamps on the right side of the buttstock. The original Mk. I clearing rod is still present, and the rifle rates very good plus overall. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Enfield Model: MK.1 Serial Number: 4965A Caliber Info: .303 Gauge Info: .303 |
