British Short .22 Mk. II Training Rifle
Description: Serial #1898, .22 LR, 25" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a stunning, Enfield marked rifle that was built on an 1895 dated Lee-Enfield Mk. I by Sparkbrook, and has retained 97-98% of the dull, arsenal blue finish that was applied during the conversion. There are spots of mild silvering along the hard edges, projections, and the bearing surfaces of the receiver and matching numbered bolt. The rifle retains the original volley sights, but the magazine cut-off was removed during the conversion. The matching numbered walnut stock, matching numbered forend, and short handguard have an added military oil finish over scattered minor handling marks and small blemishes throughout, while the brass buttplate has turned to a mild yellow-ochre patina. The rifle has a correct empty magazine housing (no spring or follower present). These rifles were made from Lee-Metford and Lee-Enfield rifles that had surpassed their service lives, and were converted to rimfire trainers that closely matched the length and weight of the then newly adopted SMLE. They are quite seldom seen nowadays, and this example is in better condition than any we have yet seen.
