Synopsis:
Outstanding, original, and matching Remington Enfield P14, Pattern 1914 British Military rifle.
Description:
The Remington Enfield P14 rifle, caliber .303, was a British service rifle of the First World War period, principally manufactured under contract by companies in the United States. It was a bolt-action weapon with an integral 5-round magazine. This standard configuration Pattern 1914 (P14) bolt action rifle, manufactured by Remington, has a drift adjustable blade front sight set between two protective ears; aperture rear sight that doubles as a ladder sight for extended ranges, the ladder graduated from 2-16. Volley sights are on the left side of the rifle: the front sight is attached to a dial that selects the range, marked “1500” and from “16-26”. The rear sight is a flip up aperture which is located on top of the bolt release lever. The top of the receiver is marked “RE” for Remington. The left side of the receiver, the left side of the barrel shank (under the wood), the bolt handle and the back of the sight ladder are all marked with the serial number “359680”. Usual British proofing on the left side of the receiver and the surface of the bolt handle. The hardwood stock, dated 1914 on the right side, has a straight grip, finger grooves, cutout for the volley sight, barrel band, a single reinforcing bolt and separate pin along with a metal buttplate with a hinged door for storage.
Condition:
Near Excellent original condition. The barrel receiver and bolt retaining the vast majority of their original blue. Light fading and spotting on the trigger guard and floorplate as carefully imaged. Comparable condition stock, un-touched, with a light scattering of handling marks. Mirror bore. Correct manual mechanics.
