Enfield Mk1 No. 5 "Jungle Carbine
Description: My Enfield Mk1 No. 5 "Jungle Carbine" was made too late to see WWII battle action. I believe it hardly saw any action until I shot it. This rifle is in as pristine condition as you will find any rifle that is soon to be 75 years old. I purchased it from a very old gentleman that had a huge firearms collection. He didn't use storage socks, de-humidifiers, or climate controlled environment; he flat took care of his collection with hands on maintenance which included disassembly and oiling like you are supposed to. I will be honest and tell you that I did not disassemble my rifle and photograph and document the alphabet soup of numbers, letters, and symbols that are stamped inside this rifle. Who cares ! I did field strip it to check for integrity, wear, and corrosiion; of which there was none. The worst I encountered was a sore left shoulder from shooting it. Even with the original rubber butt pad it kicks like a government mule. The Enfield Mk1 No. 5 is chambered with .303 British Caliber which is readily available. Magazine capacity is 10 rounds that can be fed with 5 round stripper clips or individually. The actual barrel length is 18.5" plus two inches for the flash hider. Over all rifle length is 39.5" and weighs 7.2 lbs. The Vernier rear "ladder" sight is adjustable to 800 yds. and the front blade sight is adjustable for windage. The bolt action is as one of the smoothest ever made. Mechanically my rifle cycles and fires flawlessly. Too bad I can't aim that way. If you are a firearm curio and relic aficionado you must know about the history and heritage of this rifle. My rifle is stamped on the side of the receiver with No5 Mk1 ROF(F) and under that is 11/46 Y4688. This rifle has all of the original parts that it should have for that date of manufacture. Just like the American Garand and M1 Carbine manufacturers the Enfield rifle factories; the other being in Shirley, England, cross supplied parts with each other to maintain production pace. What that translates to in American English is this Number 5 Enfield Mark 1 rifle was manufactured at the Royal Ordnance Factory (F) in Fazakerley, England during the eleventh month of 1946 and assigned serial number Y4688. The serial numbers were Electro-engraved onto the receiver, barrel, magazine, bolt, and other places I did not explore. Just about every part of this rifle has some sort of identifying stamp mark. The Fazakerley factory was noted for manufacturing some of the finest firearms of the period. Please look at the pictures carefully. I have a bunch more pictures I can email you if you are further interested. My rifle is being sold in compliance with all state and federal firearms sales and shipping regulations. I will ship only to the currently valid FFL of your choice or to those individuals with a valid C&R License within the 48 contiguous United States. The rifle is sold AS IS with no expressed or implied warranties. Buyer pays actual shipping cost and optional shipping insurance.
