ENFIELD NO5 MK1 (ROF) - JUNGLE CARBINE - 1946

Description:
                         ENFIELD NO5 MK1 (ROF) - JUNGLE CARBINE - MATCHING SERIAL #'s
Markings:
The serial number prefix “U” and the “F” stamps on the rear sight, elevation knob and front sight, confirms that it was produced in 1946, at the Fazakerley Factory in Liverpool, England.    Readers familiar with this rifle knows that there are stampings all over the place. Following is a partial list of the ones that I have photographed.    If you are looking for a particular stamping not listed? Let me know and I’ll email a photo of it.   The serial number is stamped on both the Metal and the Stock.  Additionally:
  • Barrel Right Side Top:  “No 5   MK 1   .303  U King”  --
  • Bottom:  “C.A.  1. C.A.I.  ST.    ALB. VT”
  • Barrel Top Rear. “* ”
  • Serial #’s are stamped on the:
  • Bottom of the Stock”  --
  • Back of Bolt”  -- Right side of the Rear Barrel Band”.
  • RS Barrel Band “FMT”
  • Rear Latter site: “LS”
  • Front Site:  “F”
  • Bolt –  “>I 8”
  • Bayonet:   marked “RFI”
It's been in my possession since 1974.  It;s all original as far as I can determine. There are a lot of Enfield “experts” out there. If you find an inaccuracy in any of this listing?. Please let me know. I don’t want to misrepresent any of my rifles.
Might be interesting?
Records show that 251,368 No. 5s were built between 1944 and 1947.  The serial number prefix “U” and the “F” stamps on the rear sight, elevation knob and front sight, confirms that it was produced in 1946, at the Fazakerley Factory in Liverpool. ROF Fazakerley was established before World War II, to increase arms production facilities in areas less vulnerable to aerial attacks.
I had it professionally cleaned and inspected twice in 50 years.  Both inspections confirmed "as issued".  Like most Enfields, the #5's are pretty much indestructible.  The bolt action is smooth.  Bore is good maybe very good.  Photos show the condition.
Matching serial numbers are on both the STOCK and METAL. Which is pretty much unheard of, given that it could have served in some capacity during four wars from 1944 until 1960.
  • The Rifle No. 5 Mk I "Jungle Carbine" saw  major combat use in the following (not in order).
  • Operation Market Garden in the Netherlands, used by British airborne forces
  • The Malayan Emergency (1948 - 1960),
  • The Mau Mau Uprising in Kenya
  • And of course, Korea
Given the above, It’s not in pristine shape. But for its active service issue, it is in top condition. I’ve fired it about 3 different times.
And if you decide to shoot this rifle, I suggest that you get an "AirTech Slip-On Recoil Pad. This gun is a bruser.
Applies to all listings:
In 2002, the entire collection was professionally removed from wood and inspected for condition. Then cleaned, lubricated and reassembled.  By a very experienced and professional Gunsmith.   All received a clean bill of health from a condition stand point. Better than appropriate for the age.
They have only been lightly cleaned and oiled by me. Before and since.  The entire collection has never out of a temperature-humidity, controlled environment. Since the purchased date. Most post 1920 guns have been fired by a qualified gunsmith or range master.  For reliability, functionality and safety confirmation.  I have fired a few.  Except for A3-03,  Maybe for a total of ~100 rounds.

Guns that are equipped for them, have as-issued correct Bayonet and Scabbards, in very good condition. Where applicable: Most have (sure looks like) as issued: Slings, clips and / or removable magazines. And some higher Mag loads, are available. All have the expected stampings and / or cartouches.  Some Government Arsenal Reconditions are included. And if so?  There are photos of the clear markings of this reconditioning. Again, per individual listing.  Other than Arsenal Rebuilds.
There are no known replacement or OEM parts or accessories in this collection.
All firearms are offered as collector’s items only.  Seller does not accept responsibility as to the shooting safety or reliability of any firearm.  A thorough inspection. should be conducted by an experienced, reliable gunsmith / rangemaster Before even considering firing any gun.
