WORLD WAR I Era B.S.A. Short Magazine Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk. III Rifle C&R
Used in the Early Stages of WORLD WAR II
Description: WORLD WAR I Era B.S.A. Short Magazine Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk. III Rifle C&R Used in the Early Stages of WORLD WAR II Here we present a C&R Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) No. 1 MK III Rifle, made in 1918 at Birmingham Small Arms Company in Birmingham, England. The Lee-Enfield is a bolt-action, magazine fed, repeating rifle that served as the main firearm used by the military forces of the British Empire and Commonwealth during the first half of the 20th century. This is the type of rifle that would have been used during the closing days of World War I and the early stages of World War II in France by the British Expeditionary forces as the No.4 rifle was not available in large numbers at the time. The best-known Lee–Enfield rifle, the Short Magazine Lee Enfield Mk III was introduced on January 26, 1907. During the First World War, the SMLE Mk III was found to be too complicated and expensive to manufacture, and demand outpaced the supply. In late 1915 the Mk III* was introduced incorporating several changes, the most prominent of which were the deletion of the magazine cut-off mechanism, which when engaged permits the feeding and extraction of single cartridges only while keeping the cartridges in the magazine in reserve, and the long-range volley sights. Rifles with some or all of these features present are found, as the changes were implemented at different times in different factories and as stocks of parts were depleted. The magazine cut-off was reinstated after the First World War ended, and not entirely dispensed with in manufacturing until 1933. Some rifles with cut-offs actually remained into the 1960s. The overall condition is fine. Original finish. Robust action. Bright bores. Solid stock with an average amount of wear. Legible markings. “CAI” marked receiver. Visible numbers match. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 25 inches. Caliber: .303 British Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING.
