The fluted cartridge carrier made a quarter turn each time the lever was operated, feeding a new cartridge into the breech. The new model Evans rifle used the 1 1/2” case. This was known as the “.44 New Model” cartridge. 30 inch round barrel, appears to be manufactured as the then "New Mode"l. The Evans rifle had the greatest magazine capacity of any rifle mass-produced in the 19th Century with approx. 15,000 manufactured between 1873 and 1879. Round barrel has speckling with barrel bore in reasonable shape. Some amount (about 40%) of bluing remains on the receiver. No cracks or splintering on stock or forearm.
