Description:
Designed by the legendary Dieudonné Saive (who also designed the ubiquitous FN FAL), the FN-49's development was halted by the German occupation of Belgium in WWII. Saive fled to England, continuing his engineering work until returning to a liberated Belgium to finalize production in the late 1940s. Despite its exquisite, old-world machined steel craftsmanship, the Belgian military contract model had a brief frontline shelf life. It was quickly outpaced by Saive's next creation, the detachable-magazine fed FN FAL, forcing the FN-49 into secondary storage or reserve roles by the mid-1960s. .30-06 Springfield
