The FN SCAR 17S (Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle, 17S) is the civilian semi-automatic version of the military FN Mk 17 (SCAR-H \"Heavy\" variant). Manufactured by FN Herstal (Belgium) and imported/sold by FN America, it is a modular, gas-operated battle rifle/carbine chambered primarily in 7.62×51mm NATO (.308 Winchester).

Operating System: Short-stroke gas piston with a rotating bolt. This system runs cleaner and more reliably than direct impingement (like AR-10s), with less felt recoil and better performance when suppressed.
