Franz Sodia Sidelock Ejector Double Rifle – .375 H&H Magnum Rimless – Ferlach, 1977 – Certified Safari-Ready™
Description:
Offered here is a finely made Franz Sodia sidelock ejector double rifle in .375 H&H Magnum Rimless, Serial No. 21327, manufactured June 1977 in Ferlach, Austria — one of the great centers of Continental gunmaking.
This rifle represents classic late-20th-century Ferlach craftsmanship: robust mechanical design, refined engraving, and practical field regulation in one of the most versatile dangerous game calibers ever developed.
CONSTRUCTION & FEATURES
24" chopper-lump barrels in Böhler Rasant steel, chambered for the universal .375 H&H Magnum Rimless cartridge.
The action features a Kersten Greener upper crossbolt, double underlugs, Holland & Holland-pattern sidelocks with rear springs (detachable via concealed key), and H&H-pattern ejectors.
The front trigger (right barrel) is fitted with a combined set (hair) trigger.
Sighting is provided by a slanted express rear sight on a short rib and a silver front bead on ramp.
This rifle has been test-fired and demonstrates strong regulation with factory 300-grain Swift A-Frame ammunition. A secondary 300-grain North Fork soft-point load was also developed in collaboration with Superior Ammunition and can be made available to the new owner. The set trigger has been correctly adjusted and is functioning as intended, providing a clean and consistent release. Sight alignment has been confirmed for proper regulation, with the front bead held level with the rear sight.
This well-executed Continental double presents as a striking, refined, properly regulated, and field-ready example suitable for immediate use in a dangerous game environment.
ENGRAVING & FINISH
The engraving remains as-new. Executed in the traditional Austrian style, it features finely rendered scroll and bouquet ornamentation, the whole finished in a classic grey. The work is crisp, balanced, and exceptionally well-executed throughout.
STOCK
Classic full pistol grip stock of high-quality French walnut.
- Length of Pull: 14 3/8"
- Barrels: 24"
- Weight: 8.8 lbs
Fitted with a soft English-style reddish recoil pad and a splinter forend with Deeley latch.
The rifle balances exceptionally well at 8.8 pounds — noticeably lighter and quicker handling than many British .375 doubles.
CONDITION
This rifle appears to have been sparingly used. The bores remain perfect, and operation is faultless.
Mechanically sound throughout, the rifle locks up tight and remains on-face, with ejectors strong and properly timed. Overall finish reflects light, careful use consistent with a well-maintained example.
POSITIONING
The .375 H&H in a sidelock ejector double is among the most versatile configurations available to the serious hunter — capable on dangerous game while remaining comfortable and highly effective for plains game and North American species.
This Franz Sodia combines proven Ferlach construction, Böhler Rasant steel barrels, proper Kersten crossbolt strength, confirmed regulation, mechanical integrity, and ideal field weight. A refined Continental double that will appeal to both the collector and the serious hunter.
