The Field Ethos Adventurer Rifle by Griffin & Howe, serial number FE00013, is an exceptionally limited and purpose-driven dangerous game rifle—number 13 of only 20 produced. Built in 2022, this rifle represents a modern interpretation of the ultimate “one rifle” concept, combining premium materials, practical design, and the legendary craftsmanship of Griffin & Howe.
Chambered in .375 H&H Magnum, widely regarded as the definitive all-around dangerous game cartridge, this rifle is capable of taking everything from medium game to the African Big Five. It is built on a Winchester Model 70–style controlled round feed action with a 3-position safety, emphasizing reliability under extreme conditions. The rifle features a 25" barrel, 3+1 capacity, and ERA island express sights with a standing 100-yard blade and flip-up leaves for 200 and 300 yards, along with a banded and hooded front sight. For optics, it is equipped with 30mm quick-detach Talley rings, allowing seamless transition between scope and iron sights without loss of zero.
Weighing 9 lb 1.8 oz, the rifle is balanced for both dangerous game hunting and longer-range shooting. The concept behind the build is rooted in a simple but demanding question: “If you could only hunt with one rifle for the rest of your life, what would it be?” The answer led to the .375 H&H, described in the Field Ethos build notes as “the global Swiss Army knife of chamberings… the true do-it-all round.” With over a century of proven performance, it remains “a great killer for medium to big game… and both adequate and legal for killing all things on the Dark Continent.”
This example remains in very good overall condition, showing only faint wear consistent with light use. The bore is clear with sharp rifling, the action is smooth, the trigger is crisp, and the rifle is mechanically excellent throughout. Performance matches its pedigree, with the platform noted to produce ½" groups at 100 yards with factory ammunition, underscoring the precision expected from a Griffin & Howe build.
The rifle comes complete with its original Griffin & Howe / Field Ethos Nanuk 995 hard case, along with all original accessories. Also included is a letter of provenance from P. Hemingway-Adams, a descendant of Ernest Hemingway, adding a unique and highly collectible historical element. In the letter, he notes: “Being of a rather superstitious nature, I thought it would be fun to intentionally thumb my nose at fate by specifically requesting ‘lucky number 13.’”
Please refer to the photographs for a detailed view of the overall condition.
With only 20 rifles ever produced, most already placed with serious hunters and collectors, the Field Ethos Adventurer represents a rare opportunity to own a modern custom rifle built with a singular purpose—ultimate versatility, uncompromising reliability, and top-tier performance—now enhanced by documented provenance tied to one of the most iconic names in sporting history.
