LAYAWAY??? ....." HARPERS FERRY ".... US MODEL 1841 MISSISSIPPI RIFLE
This example is dated 1849 HARPERS FERRY on lock which is also stamped US with eagle (faint). First type with no bayonet lug on side of barrel. Considered the finest rifle of its type during the Mexican War (Apr 25, 1846 – Feb 2, 1848). Features two brass bands, metal ramrod, brass trigger guard, distinctive brass two piece patch box, brass butt plate , near full length walnut stock with ghost image of cartouche inspector stamps on left side of stock. CONDITION::....... Wood is excellent with usual dings and some initial scratched on right side . Lock legends are crisp. Barrel is pitted from nipple to four inches from rear band, after that, mostly gun metal tone with freckling. . Bore is fairly decent. Lock has been cleaned and brass was cleaned at one time.
