Founded in 1871, the original H&R firm was in business until 1986, more than a century of excellence and innovation. Revitalized in 1991, H&R 1871 is a new iteration of this historic company and today makes revolvers, single shot rifles and shotguns using original Harrington firearms designs. The Harrington name continues to impress nearly 150 years after its original founding. Gilbert Henderson Harrington was originally partnered with his uncle Frank Wesson until he bought the latter out in 1874 and partnered with a Wesson employee, William Augustus Richardson in 1875. Thus the Harrington & Richardson Company was born. The H&R manufacturing facility in Worcester, Massachusetts quickly expanded as the Harrington name grew.
