CIVIL WAR HENRY RIFLE
Description: 24 inch octagon barrel chambered in 44 RF caliber. Bore has visible six groove rifling with some pitting. Sights include the later style front blade with the high square back which was common after 1,200 serial range and a reproduction rear that is graduated to 900 yards with the retaining screw for the slider. Original placement of the dovetail for the rear sight has been filled and another slot cut through the middle of the barrel address. Barrel address has the larger-size lettering. Barrel and magazine tube are a mottled brown/gray patina with traces of gold paint. Brass receiver has a smooth mustard patina. Has the small "H" factory inspection marking located on the lower tang representing inspection by Benjamin Tyler Henry himself. There are some spurious Martial markings on the left side of the barrel and frame as well as a cartouche stamped in the stock. (There were no Martially marked Henry rifles in the 4k serial range). Hammer and lever are brown with traces of gold paint remaining. Smooth functioning action. American walnut oil finished stock has some chips out at the wrist and some handling mars. Has the earlier style rounded heel brass buttplate. Steel cleaning rod is not present. The sling swivel base is a replacement and missing the swivel on the left side of the rifle and no visible Henry “Bump”. The extractor is missing and a pin sized hole was drilled into the frame on the left side to remove it. An example of a Civil War Henry rifle that was made in February of 1864. More Henry's were made in 1864 than any other year. Leroy Merz Antique Firearms specializes in antique and vintage Winchesters and other fine American firearms.
