CIVIL WAR HENRY RIFLE
Description: 24 inch octagon barrel chambered in 44 RF caliber. Bore is worn and dark with six groove rifling. Original sights include the later style front blade with the high square back which was common after 1,200 serial range and a rear that is graduated to 900 yards with the retaining screw for the slider (missing) bar at the top of the leaf and a smaller "V" notch in the bar. Correct early barrel address with the smaller-size lettering. Barrel and magazine tube are a mottled gray patina. Brass receiver has a smooth toned patina. Has the small "W" factory inspection marking located on the lower tang representing inspection by Oliver Winchester himself. Hammer and lever are gray with some light pitting on the lever. Fine functioning action. American walnut stock is shy at the wrist and has handling mars. Also has the later style pointed heel brass buttplate. Steel cleaning rod is not present. There are sling swivels on the left side of the rifle and no visible Henry “Bump”. A good example of a Civil War Henry rifle that was made in July of 1864. More Henry's were made in 1864 than any other year. Leroy Merz Antique Firearms specializes in antique and vintage Winchesters and other fine American firearms.
