Original antique 1860 Henry rifle in .44
Description: Here we have available an original antique 1860 Henry rifle. Serial number 10665. We will admit upfront that it has quite a few little issues. Some easily fixed, some maybe not, just being honest. I'll tell you everything I can about this old girl. Again- this is an original 1860 Henry, not an aged repop. First off, the lever hangs a bit, as shown in one of the pics, that is a inside mechanical issues that is likely easily fixed. The top tang is cracked thru, as you can see in the picture. It looks like there might be a period repair, but I don't want to take a chance and take the stock off, you just never know what's going to happen with these old guns when you start tearing them down. It seems solid. Usually best to leave well enough alone. The buttstock isn't the greatest fit, and if original, has been sanded quite a bit. The magazine spring is several inches short, and likely very fragile. The brass magazine follower does not want to run all of the way up to the barrel sleeve, and I don't want to force it, nor risk breaking the fragile magazine spring. The lever hook is very worn and loose in the lower tang, so does not lock the lever in place. The rear sight has been cut, purposefully I think. The worst is that there are two cuts in the top flat of the barrel, one on each side of the rear sight dovetail. I have no idea why. The one in the back partially obscures the serial number, so I had to remove the buttplate to get that, as original Henry serial numbers are scribed on the inside of the buttplate as well. Barrel interior is dark with strong rifling. Exterior has no original finish, with varying levels of pitting and numbers of "dents" in the metal, especially on the underside of the barrel sleeve. Henry markings on top flat of the barrel are strong and easily legible. The action seems to work just fine, hammer locks back, fires, etc. Brass is smooth with an even mustard patina. There is a W, or an M, stamped into the bottom tang between the lever hook and the rearmost screw head. I have described this accurately and the pics tell some of the rest of the story. Shipping will vary depending on destination, but figure on $250, which will include a good hardcase. SOLD |
