Original Civil War New Haven Arms Co Henry Model 1860 Repeating Rifle 1st DC Cavalry Range 1863
Description: This is an original Civil War 1863 production model 1860 Henry rifle made by the New Haven Arms Company, which was renamed to the Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1866. Brass frame has a pleasing patina. Proper rounded brass buttplate is in the same condition. The barrel has sharp markings. The steel parts of this gun appear to have had an applied patina added at some point, however it does not detract from the overall appearance. Fine mechanical function. Bore rates at very good with strong rifling and some pitting. The stock is very good with some dings and handling marks, may have been lightly cleaned at some point. Based on the serial number tables in Wiley Swords book, The Historic Henry Rifle, this gun was made in April of 1863. This gun falls into a estimated serial range of guns that were shipped on 6-19-1863 to "John W. Brown, agent to supplement factory's shortage on the 1st D.C. Cavalry former order for 120”. Further, “it is estimated that…rifles no. 1392 through 2573 represent arms purchased for the 1st D.C. Cavalry (battalion) in 1863, and were supplied by John W. Brown, agent, Columbus, Ohio, as well as the New Haven Arms Co.”. The screws, buttplate, stock, and lower tang are all matching. All in all, a very solid and presentable Henry rifle that almost certainly went off to war. Of interest, serial number 1950 (5 guns before this one) is documented as having been captured by Lt. Col. George Martin of the 38th Virginia Infantry. Serial number 1954 (the gun consecutively before this one) is listed in Appendix C of Wiley Swords book as having been reported by the 3rd Regiment of US Veteran Volunteers in 1865, Companies B, C, I, H, & K. Serial number is 1955 ANTIQUE! Buyer pays $250 shipping CONUS, including full insurance and tracking. AK & HI are extra. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, checks, and money orders. ALL CARD PURCHASES ARE SUBJECT TO AN ADDITIONAL 3% CHARGE. Unfortunately we no longer offer lay-away, AT ALL. FULL payment is to be received within 10 days. We make no warranties or guarantees as to the fire-ability or safety of doing so on any of these items. Firearms are not test fired, however we do test the action to see if it functions properly for a dry fire. We do not put any ammo in it or disassemble to check internal parts. We will sometimes take off barrels or stocks in an attempt to prevent damage in shipping. We only sell used guns, and have no way to know how many rounds have been through them. WE DO NOT SHIP INTERNATIONALLY. ALL FIREARMS, REGARDLESS OF AGE OR FEDERAL ANTIQUE STATUS have to be shipped to a dealer for transfer within NY. Other states are fine, depending on your state laws. We will not ship to a New York, NJ, or CA C&R holder, a standard FFL is required. There are some states in which a C&R handgun MUST be shipped to a dealer, such as MD. Please know your local laws. We are not going to risk OUR livelihood. WE DO NOT OFFER ANY IN STORE PICK UP, EVERYTHING WILL BE SHIPPED.
