Heym Martini Express Rifle (redesigned 2011 by Ralf Martini), 375 H&H, Excellent Plus
?Planning a trip to Africa? Want to impress your Professional Hunter? This combo will do it. According to Professional Hunters, Heym is the new Rigby of yesteryear.
This is their redesigned Martini Express Rifle, individually hand crafted around Heym’s proprietary double square bridge magnum action and their 24” Krupp steel barrel – both of which are made in-house by Heym, located in Gleichamberg, Thuringia, Germany. Heym’s high grade rifles are still built by hand, and every part is made and finished in house. No two parts on two Heym rifles are interchangeable: Each is hand-fitted to painstaking tolerances.
This world-class action is a modern German double-square-bridge Magnum Mauser 98 action with all the features of Safari styling, popular with Professional Hunters. The action is controlled-round-feeding with classic Mauser straight bolt handle (also Ralf Martini’s design) and uses a Winchester Model 70 three-position safety with one-piece hinged straddle floorplate with center-bow release. Other Safari features include a banded front sight ramp, banded front sling eye, island express rear sight with one folding and one fixed leaves.
This is perfect medicine for big bears in North America and Kamchatka and it is the classic caliber for all around hunting in Africa.
Key to the re-design in 2011, Heym consulted Ralf Martini of Martini Gunmakers, Cranbrook, BC Canada, to use Martini’s renowned stock design for their (Heym’s) new express rifles. A member of the American Custom Gunmakers Guild, Ralf’s design is the quintessential classic style preferred by Professional Hunters: open grip, ebony forearm tip, tapered (English style) forearm, steel grip cap, superbly designed cheekpiece with bead, and a red natural rubber recoil pad. Additionally, this specimen’s stock is oiled English walnut with excellent figure showing on both profiles. Stock accessories include rear sling eye, single recoil crossbolt, and steel pistol grip cap.
Upgrades include next level wood figure, rear receiver bridge fitted for
Alaska Arms Quick Ddetachable scope rings
LOP is 14 ¼” over 5/8” solid red Old English recoil pad; Weight is 9 lbs. 10 oz. without scope.
The scope is the top-of-the-line German Schmidt & Bender Zenith 1.25-4x24 with 30mm tube diameter with flash dot dangerous-game lighted reticle, S&B's number FD9. It is mounted with the unique Alaska Arms “One Set” quick release scope rings which mount directly to the square bridges, known by few but considered better than Talley and Warne rings. This system is better because of its positive and quick return to zero after scope removal. Its patented spring-loaded levers allow the scope to re-mount with one 90-degree twist of each lever returning to positive stops. The maker has machined recesses into the square bridges to accept the rings’ locking dovetail feet, the practice today of most of the great German gunmakers.
Replacement cost of the rifle without upgrades is $10,500. Add-on’s include wood figure -- $750, scope -- $2,600, and scope mounts -- $180, bringing the total package to $14,030 new. Includes Heym Certificate and original scope box.
