WW2 Production Johnson Model 1941 Automatic Rifle in .30-06 Springfield
** Absolute Beauty of an Example! ** SOLD
Description: This is one of the nicest Johnson rifles we have had in a very long time. This Johnson Model 1941 rifle in .30-06 caliber is in excellent condition all-around, retaining the original factory finish on all of the metal parts and with a beautiful original stock. The Johnson Model 1941 rifle narrowly missed out on being chosen as the main battle rifle of the U.S. Military during WW2. It was in competition with the M1 Garand prior to the war, and lost out only because of some concerns regarding the durability of the rotary magazine housing and the inability of the Johnson M1941 to handle a standard blade bayonet. The recoiling barrel design could only function properly with a lightweight spike type bayonet, a standard blade bayonet's weight impeded the barrels movement too much. Despit not being chosen as the main battle rifle for U.S. forces, a number of Johnson rifles and machine guns ended up in the fighting of WW2. The United States Marine Corps bought a number of Johnsons to supplement the M1 Garands they were receiving, as they were not getting enough M1 Garands to sufficiently arm their troops fighting in the Pacific Theatre. These Johnson Model 1941 rifles and light machine guns served the U.S.M.C. well, with a number of U.S.M.C. troops finding that they preferred it to the Garand. The elite American and Canadian commando unit called the First Special Service Force otherwise known as "The Devil's Brigade" used the Johnson Model 1941 Light Machine Gun to great effect in Italy and the Mediterranean Theatre. The First Special Service Force was armed with a variety of non-standard and limited-issue weapons, and the Johnson in particular greatly increased the firepower of the unit. This particular Johnson Model 1941 rifle is serial number B1317, and is in it's original configuration. As you can see from the pictures, this rifle is exceptionally clean and attractive. All of the Parkerized finish has a very consistent look to it, showing on some very minor wear and handling marks with no bad spots or eyesores. The bore in this Johnson is excellent, mirror-bright with sharp rifling and no visible imperfections. The original stock set is also in excellent condition, free from any cracks, ship, repairs, or major wear. The forearm and buttstock are a perfect match in both color and degree of wear, showing only some very minor handling/storage marks. All of the controls on this Johnson rifle are in perfect working order, and the rotary bolt action locks into battery perfectly. This Johnson M1941 has been range tested and is both reliable and accurate. If you have been looking for one of the scarce and sought-after Johnson Model 1941 rifles here is your chance to get one of the best examples we have had in years.
