Guns International #: 102103840
Seller's Inventory #: AL7075
This appears to be one of the 1,300 (of 3,500 total) private purchase Model 1862 Joslyn carbines as it does not have any sub-inspection marks or final acceptance cartouche. It is a standard 52 rimfire Model 1862 with a 22"" round barrel with a very good bore with strong rifling and with some firing erosion toward the muzzle. All the metal has a even smooth brown patina. The lock is marked JOSLYN FIRE ARMS Co. over STONINGTON over CONN. The top of the swinging breech block is marked B.F.JOSLYN'S PATENT over OCTOBER 8th 1861 over JUNE 24th 1862 over 1044 (the serial number). The brass barrel band, trigger guard, and butt plate have an even aged patina. The sling bar and ring are present. The stock is very good with no chips or cracks, worn checkering at the wrist and forearm, and very light usage wear. The action functions correctly. Civilian Joslyn carbines are rarely encountered. This is the first one we have seen in several years.
