**Circa 1860-70** Gustav Baurman Kentucky Percussion 1/2 Rifle .36 Caliber
Description: The Kentucky rifle was one of the first commonly used rifles for hunting and warfare and is one of the first early firearms to use rifling, which caused the projectile (commonly a round lead ball) to spin around the axis of its motion. This increased the stability of its trajectory and dramatically improved accuracy over contemporary smooth bore muskets, which were cheaper and more common. The long rifle was made popular by German gunsmiths who immigrated to America, and the accuracy achieved by the long rifle made it an ideal tool for hunting wildlife for food in frontier America. This Kentucky 1/2 stock rifle was produced by Gustav Baurman in Louisville, Kentucky between 1864 and 1871. It is chambered in .36 Caliber (approximately) and has a barrel length of 28 Inches. This is a beautiful example of a classic piece of frontier Americana. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Gustav Baurman Model: Kentucky Rifle (Half Stock) |
