Antique ENTERPRISE GUN WORKS .30 Cal PERCUSSION CONVERSION Half Stock Rifle PENNSYLVANIA Long Rifle
Description: Antique ENTERPRISE GUN WORKS .30 Cal PERCUSSION CONVERSION Half Stock Rifle PENNSYLVANIA Long Rifle Here we present an antique Enterprise Gun Works Pennsylvania Half-Stock Long Rifle. Enterprise Gun Works (1848-1883) offered one of the finest 19th century ranges of firearms and sporting goods available from 136-138 Wood Street in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Enterprise was founded by James Bown and a partner surnamed Tetley. Bown became the sole proprietor of the business in 1862, during the American Civil War. Bown was an English immigrant who was only 25 when he started his business. His son James eventually joined him in the partnership. Their trademark was “Kill Deer”, a stag facing left with their company name angling above the creature, this almost certainly a reference to Natty Bumppo’s rifle’s name in the Letherstocking Tales (which included The Last of the Mohicans) by James Fenimore Cooper in the 1820s. The Bowns’ successors had this to say in an advertisement in 1883: “The only manufacturers of the CELEBRATED KENTUCKY RIFLES, which name was adopted by the senior member of this firm in 1848; ... all our Rifles have our name stamped on each barrel, and THIS STAMP.” Rifles bearing the Enterprise Gun Works marks are known to be marked “BROWN & HIRTH” on the barrel, such as this example. This example is also hand inscribed with a faint “John Karsnen 88” atop the barrel. The overall condition is good. The action does not function at present and the lock is loose as the lock screw is absent. Aged bore with good rifling. Solid stock with average wear (front barrel pin is missing which connects the barrel with the forestock). Lightly engraved lock. The ramrod is absent. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 34-1/8 inches. Caliber: .30 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1400 #217062 SOLD Antique: Yes |
