Description: Antique JOSIAH B. LONG Percussion UNION COUNTY, Pennsylvania LONG RIFLE Beautiful Maple Stock! Here we present an antique Josiah B. Long Half Stock Long Rifle, made circa the mid-19th Century. Josiah B. Long was the oldest of Pennsylvania gunsmith Joseph Long’s five sons, born June 8, 1828 in Adamsburg (now Beaver Springs) in Union County, PA. He is listed as a “gunsmith” on the Federal Census for 1850 in the Beaver Township in Union County, Pennsylvania and died on August 30, 1855 at the young age of 27. This rifle has a very similar look to signed rifles made by his father, Joseph Long. Its stout octagonal barrel is in .38 caliber, large enough to take medium to large sized game or to defend the homestead against unwanted aggression. The overall condition is good. The action is strong. The bore remains in good shape with nice rifling. The light color on the maple stripe stock holds the gaze of fascinated onlookers. “D.R.S.” is inscribed on the placard pinned to the left stock. “JBL” is engraved atop the barrel. Here is a prime example of a plains rifle to collect and display! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 35-1/8 inches.
