Here we present an antique Percussion Shotgun, made sometime in the mid-19th Century. Used for sport, provision and protection, shotguns then, like now, have always proven themselves invaluable. This stout part octagonal barrel shotgun is in 28 gauge, primarily made to take smaller sized game.
Rifle and shotgun manufacture during this era was rapidly changing over from thousands of craftsmen all over the United States and on the Frontier making and selling their wares, to the large factories with standardized assembly lines and modern manufacturing techniques. Many makers’ names of these percussion firearms have been lost over time. This shotgun is one such example. This would have been primarily a firearm designed for hunting small fowl or small game.
The overall condition is good. Original patina. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. Solid stock with light handling.
