BEAVER Engraved 1846 Dated Antique WILLIAM STOVER Long Rifle .34 Caliber
Mid-1800s HOMESTEAD/HUNTING Rifle
Description: BEAVER Engraved 1846 Dated Antique WILLIAM STOVER Long Rifle .34 Caliber Mid-1800s HOMESTEAD/HUNTING Rifle Here we present an antique Wm. Stover Signed Half Stock Long Rifle, made circa the mid-19th Century. This gun is unique in the fact that it appears the maker, William Stover, not only signed the barrel and the back action lock, but also seems to have engraved what looks to be a self portrait along with the date of July 7th, 1846. There were several Stovers who were gunmakers from Pennsylvania and Ohio in the early-to-mid-19th Century. The patch box is engraved with a beaver and inscribed “BEAVER”. This rifle’s octagonal barrel is in .34 caliber, large enough to take small to medium sized game or to defend the homestead against unwanted aggression. Rifle manufacture in the mid-to-late 19th Century was rapidly changing over from thousands of craftsmen all over the United States and on the Frontier making and selling their wares, to the large factories with standardized assembly lines and modern manufacturing techniques. The overall condition is good. Original patina throughout. The action is excellent and crisp. The bore is patinated with good rifling. Period repair around the wrist including the German silver plate on the left side. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 42-3/4 inches. Caliber: .34 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1700 #240283 SOLD Antique: Yes |
