CHATHAM, ONTARIO Marked LONG RIFLE by NICHOL
Description: CHATHAM, ONTARIO Marked LONG RIFLE by NICHOL .41 Caliber Bore w/ “Henry Parker” Lock Here we present an antique Half-Stock Long Rifle by Thomas Nichol, made circa the 1850s in Chatham, Canadian West, now Ontario, Canada. The lock is marked “Henry Parker” and the barrel is marked “T. Nichol, Chatham, C.W.” with an address of “No. 129 GT”. “CW” refers to “Canadian West”, the name the region was known by prior to “Ontario”. In 1831, Thomas Nichol emigrated from Edinburgh, Scotland with his family at age 3, settling in Quebec. In 1851, he opened a gun shop in Chatham. Circa 1885 he was also making roller skates, a fairly new invention, in addition to his firearms. His son would keep up the family business in the form of a more general sporting goods store. Thomas would pass away at age 77 on March 2, 1905. This .41 caliber rifle features brass hardware. The lock is nicely engraved and marked “HENRY PARKER/WARRANTED” in gothic script. It also features double set triggers. Henry Parker was a well-known lock maker operating out of Trenton, New Jersey. This rifle was used hard, unsurprising since this was made for use in what was then the Canadian Frontier. The metal parts are dark with age. The markings are clear. The stock has been repaired and areas of checkering are worn. The bore is dark with visible rifling. The action is mobile but not currently functional. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 32 inch octagon. Caliber: .41 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1250 #8060 SOLD Antique: Yes |
