EARLY AMERICAN, NEW ENGLAND FLINTLOCK MUSKET by JOHN MASON .60 Cal Antique
c1790s Period Flintlock NE Fowler/BUCK & BALL
Description: EARLY AMERICAN, NEW ENGLAND FLINTLOCK MUSKET by JOHN MASON .60 Cal Antique c1790s Period Flintlock NE Fowler/BUCK & BALL Here we present an antique Early American New England Flintlock Musket by John Mason, made circa the turn of the 19th Century in Massachusetts. Mason (b.1775) worked from 1797 to 1843, first in Sherborn, then in Shrewsbury. He apprenticed under Thomas Holbrook and it is thought that Silas Allen apprenticed under Mason. This smoothbore musket features a .60 caliber barrel of 40 inches in a full-length stock. The butt stock is of a Roman nose contour with silver wire and engraved silver thumb plate at the top of the wrist, both features which can be observed on his other work. Notice how the curvature of the stock follows the natural grain of the wood. Engraved brass butt plate & trigger guard, and plain brass side plate. This would have been a nearly do-all weapon that could have fired a single projectile, buck and ball (a combination large projectile with smaller pellets), or shot to make it useful for hunting or fighting. Frontiersmen, homesteaders, pioneers, trappers and traders would have used a rifle like this for all of the above. The overall condition is fine. Excellent action. Smooth bore in good shape (aged). Solid stock, smooth throughout. “J. MASON” is stamped atop the barrel. “W. KETLAND & Co.” is engraved on the lock. A gorgeous piece of Americana from the early US republic! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 40 inches. Caliber: .60 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $8485 #215296 SOLD Antique: Yes |
