Mid-1800s Shotgun with LONDON/WARRANTED Lock

Here we present an antique Engraved Percussion Full Stock Fowling Piece, made circa the early 1800s. It is unknown if this shotgun is European or American, and many American makers would order their lock from Europe. This would have been very handy to carry for the forester or hunter while hunting in the mid-1800s in Britain, mainland Europe, or on the American frontier. This would have been the epitome of a practical shotgun that would have been used to put food on the table or protect the homestead from unwanted intruders, including both man and beast.
With its small bore and long barrel, this piece was built primarily for hunting small game. Shotguns then, like today, were highly valued for provision, pest control and homestead defense.

The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. Solid stock with average handling evidence. Original brown patina. Markings are eligible. The front ramrod lug is absent. Some metal parts are lightly engraved.
