ENGRAVED Antique R. JENNINGS Half Stock Percussion HOMESTEAD/HUNTING Rifle
GAME GETTING .40 Caliber Rifle with ASHMORE LOCK
Description: ENGRAVED Antique R. JENNINGS Half Stock Percussion HOMESTEAD/HUNTING Rifle GAME GETTING .40 Caliber Rifle with ASHMORE LOCK Here we present an antique Engraved R. Jennings Half Stock Percussion Rifle made circa the mid-1800s in Cleveland, Ohio. Richard Jennings was an active gunmaker working out of Cleveland between the years of 1847 to 1870. He was located at 10 Ontario Street beginning in 1847 before moving to 1 Broadway where he ran his shop until 1870. He is known to have produced a number of heavy match rifles. The lockplate is marked “ASHMORE & SON”. There is a stallion inlay on the cheekpiece. The rifle is fitted with a Remington barrel. The percussion rifle was a type of rifle that utilized the percussion lock mechanism to fire a bullet or musket ball. The Percussion lock mechanism was an evolution of the flintlock mechanism used on earlier muskets and rifles, with the percussion rifle being introduced somewhere around 1820. The percussion rifle had a slight advantage when it came to rate of fire over its flintlock counterparts. The use of a percussion cap reduced the reloading time, meaning the average number of shots per minute would consistently fall between three and four per minute. The percussion lock was also very reliable in wet conditions, and the reverse is true for the flintlocks with the primer not being affected by having water in contact with it, while the powder was virtually incapable of being exposed to water. The overall condition is very good. The barrel has a light brown patina. Solid stock with a stable repair forward of the lock plate. Strong action. Dimmed bore with worn rifling. Legible markings. “REMINGTON” is marked on the left barre flat. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 35-3/4 inches. Caliber: .40 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1600 #250534 SOLD Antique: Yes |
