.40 Caliber Half-Stock Plains Rifle!

Here we present an antique Half-Stock, Heavy Barreled Long Rifle by Theodore Willerding of Evansville, Indiana circa the mid-19th Century. Theodore Willerding was born in the German States in 1839 and would immigrate to the United States, settling in Evansville and pursuing a trade as a gunsmith and gunmaker.

This rifle would have been used to hunt medium to large sized game or dispatching the enemy from greater distances than most other muskets could fire accurately at that time. This rifle features a heavy octagonal barrel in .40 caliber, large enough to take big game or a man. There is a blade front sight and a plain open sight mounted midway down the barrel. This rifle also comes equipped with double set triggers for a light and crisp trigger break.

The overall condition is good. The iron parts have a gray patina. The markings are legible. The stock is smooth and solid. The bore is in good shape with nice rifling all the way down. The action remains strong.
