Gorgeous TIGER MAPLE STOCKED Antique DREPPERD FULL STOCK Long Rifle .50 Cal HOMESTEAD|HUNTING Rifle with DOUBLE SET TRIGGERS
Description: Gorgeous TIGER MAPLE STOCKED Antique DREPPERD FULL STOCK Long Rifle .50 Cal HOMESTEAD|HUNTING Rifle with DOUBLE SET TRIGGERS Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Drepperd of Lancaster Long Rifle made circa 1837-64 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The Drepperd (sometimes spelled Dreppert and Dreppard) family of gunmakers have made guns in the Lancaster area since the Revolutionary War era, going all the way back to 1775. William Drepperd appears to have built percussion "trade rifles" of this pattern in some quantity given other extant examples with nearly identical details. The Kentucky Rifle Foundation lists him, born in 1816, as appearing in tax records for 1837 to 1864 and was a known gunsmith working out of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This example’s stout octagonal barrel is in .50 caliber, large enough to take medium to large sized game or to defend the homestead against unwanted aggression. Rifle manufacture in the mid-to-late 19th Century was rapidly changing over from thousands of craftsmen all over the United States and on the Frontier making and selling their wares, to the large factories with standardized assembly lines and modern manufacturing techniques. Many of the maker’s names of these percussion rifles have been lost over time. The rifle features a brass blade front sight, the rear sight dovetail is empty, and a brass tube peep sight is fitted on the barrel tang, floral and wavy line engraving, double set triggers, four-piece patchbox, toe plate, German silver wrist and cheekpiece inlays, and checkered wrist. The overall condition is very good. Original brown barrel patina. Strong action, with fully functioning set triggers. The bore is bright with strong rifling. The maple stock is lightly refinished, holds minimal handling evidence and wonderful striping patterns. Markings are clear. Nice hand checkered wrist and patchbox floral engravings. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 38-3/4 inches. Caliber: .50 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
