Description: INSCRIBED 1860s ATHENS, OHIO Antique ALANSEN COOLEY LONG RIFLE .32 Caliber Maple Stock, Brass Patchbox, Double Set Triggers Here we present an antique Signed Half Stock Percussion Long Rifle, made circa the mid-19th Century. Alansen L. Cooley, who was born circa 1815 in Athens Township, Ohio. He and his family owned one of the first flour mills in the area and it was powered by both water and steam. This rifle features the inscription “Dec 19th 1882 Long John” on the toe of the butt plate. Unusually, this rifle has a brass plate along the top of the comb in addition to the other brass hardware such as the butt plate, trigger guard, and patchbox. Double set triggers. 38 ¾” octagonal barrel in .32 caliber. Striped maple stock. Signed ALC on top of the barrel. The overall condition is good. Original, even patina. The action is strong. The bore has naturally darkened and remains good for its age. The stock shows use and has some period chipping along the edges of both sides of the forend, otherwise solid. Ramrod damaged.
