33357-KEITH CASTEEL RAISED CARVED & SILVER INLAID FLINTLOCK LONGRIFLE DATED MAY 1971. 57” o/a with 40 ½” octagon rifled .44 cal. barrel with nickel blade front and semi-buckhorn rear sights and dated forward of rear sight “MAY 1971” and to its rear engraved “KEITH CASTEEL/FOR RUSSEL HARVEY”. Tiger maple stock with ornate floral scroll raised relief carving behind the barrel tang, about the lock and side panels, on the forend and on left side of butt. Brass mounts and patchbox with latter nicely hand engraved with game scenes. Forend inlaid on both sides with silver scroll inlays. Silver inlays at either side of the trigger guard and to the rear of the barrel tang. Lock plate lightly engraved to rear of hammer. Extra nice “EAGLE/FEDERAL SHIELD” engraved oval cheek rest inlay as well. Excellent all original condition with original brown finish on barrel and all the finish on stock. Excellent bore and the double set triggers and lock in perfect working order. By one of the greatest American Contemporary Longrifle makers now in his late eighties and one of his early and more ornate rifles. $6900.
