Kentucky Rifle Flintlock by Pedersoli 45 Cal, 42" bl. -- Unfired New
Description: Kentucky Rifle Flintlock by Pedersoli 45 CAL, 42” Barrel, Mint The Pedersoli Kentucky Rifle is a .45 caliber flintlock that is a reproduction of the Kentucky long rifle which originated out of Pennsylvania. It evolved from the German hunting rifle, the Jaeger Rifle, being much slimmer and with longer barrel among other things. In colonial America, the Kentucky Rifle was the major rival to the Brown Bess musket (a smooth bore) which was issued to the British soldier, who at the time was considered the best Army in the world. We beat ‘em with our precision shooting provided by the rifled barrels of our Kentucky Rifles. The Pedersoli is a very true copy with the popular measurements of the time. It features a 48” American Walnut one-piece stock in satin finish which is accented by beautiful brass accouterments. Like the average original Kentucky, it sports a 13 ½” trigger pull with a 35 1/16” blued octagon barrel with a 1:48 twist. According to Pedersoli’s : “The Kentucky Rifle is an exact reproduction manufactured by Pedersoli in Italy. It features blade sights, the front sight has a blued steel base with blade, while the rear sight is an open style blued steel sight. It is designed to use 5/8” flints and sports a single trigger for accurate shooting. The brass furniture, color case-hardened lock follow the pattern used by most original Kentucky Rifles. Overall length is 54” and the rifle weighs 6 ½ lbs and comes with a wooded ramrod with brass tip and 10x32 threading. Pedersoli chose to use an example from the Golden Age of the Kentucky Rifle. While the earliest longrifles averaged .45 caliber in bore size with barrels 36 to 42 inches in length, those in the Golden Age increased in barrel lengths 42 to 46 inches, and decrease in calibers m .38 to .50. Stocks were full length to the end of the barrel and carved usually maple, often curly maple, but often other indigenous species of whatever hard wood was available including Ash, Beech and American Black Walnut. Includes leather draw string bag with two extra flints. HISTORICALLY ACCURATE: This “Kentucky Rifle” is historically accurate. In the book, The Great Guns, by Harold L.Peterson and Robert Elman, on pages 93-97 referring to history of the Kentucky Rifle, the authors date the evolution of the American rifle’s earliest stage of becoming what we call “The Kentucky Rifle” to 1750 and divide their years of production into three periods. The first period is from 1750 to 1775 and the second period is called The Golden Age of the Kentucky Rifle and dates from 1775 to 1830. Thereafter the third and final period covers the decline of the Kentucky Rifle after 1830. The first and second period guns were flintlock. CONDITION: The gun is mint with no distinguishable handling marks, bore is new. PRICE: $625.00 No FFL needed.
