Description: LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA Antique WM. DREPPERD LONG RIFLE Frontier Pioneer Iron Mounted .34 Caliber Here we present an antique Wm. Drepperd Long Rifle made circa 1837-52 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The Drepperd (sometimes spelled Dreppert and Dreppard) family of gunmakers have made guns in the Lancaster area since the Revolutionary War era, going all the way back to 1775. William Dreppert, born in 1816 was a known gunsmith in Lancaster and was first taxed in Lancaster city in 1837 as an inmate smith. He was taxed as a gunsmith through 1852. .34 caliber octagonal barrel. Iron hardware throughout. Maker signature on top of the barrel. Double set triggers. This rifle would have also been used to put food on the table or defend the homestead against unwanted intruders! The overall condition is good. Dark patina throughout. The action is strong. The bore is patinated with strong rifling. The stock has been repaired around the wrist and lock inletting and has been refinished. An attractive rifle with a clear maker’s signature!
