PHILADELPHIA Antique ANDREW WURFFLEIN Long Rifle .67 Caliber Striped Maple
With Engravings & Large Brass Patchbox
Description: PHILADELPHIA Antique ANDREW WURFFLEIN Long Rifle .67 Caliber Striped Maple With Engravings & Large Brass Patchbox Here we present an antique Andrew Wurfflein Percussion Long Rifle, made circa the 1850s in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Wurfflein arrived in New York from Germany in 1832 and settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. By 1840, he was granted U.S. citizenship. In 1844, his brother John, also a gunsmith by trade, immigrated. They worked together for some time, and were two of the six that founded the Shuetzen Verein, a prominent German shooting club in Philadelphia. Their work included rifles and pistols, including close copies of their Philadelphia neighbor Henry Deringer’s hit pocket pistol. This rifle features a half-length stock of striped maple with a large, engraved brass patchbox, which opens with a button latch. Brass hardware to include the butt plate, trigger guard, ramrod tubes. The barrel tang is nicely engraved. Double set triggers. The barrel is part-octagonal, part-round. German silver front sight. A handsome rifle. The overall condition is good. Original patina. The action does not currently function as there is no mainspring tension but with the replacement of the mainspring we anticipate no issue to functionality. Nipple is somewhat battered and closed. The bore has some traces of the original rifling which is long since gone; this bore was probably more like .65 caliber with the original rifling. The stock is quite handsome and solid, with only a small graft forward of the lock. A distinguished rifle by a renowned Pennsylvania maker. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 35-1/2 inches. Caliber: .67 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2200 #228481 SOLD Antique: Yes |
