Charles Lancaster Alex Henry Falling Block 375 Express, 405 Win.
Description: Elegant, well preserved British sporting rifle, in a great caliber. Almost certainly built by Alexander Henry, this bears the Charles Lancaster name on the lock, fine engraving, and beautifully figured walnut. Serial # 6844 was made in 1893 then rebarreled by Holland and Holland sometime after 1924. 25” barrel chambered for 375 Express, London Cordite proofed 40-300MAX. Standing rear sight marked 50 and 200, folding leaf marked 300. Silver wire line inlay is intact on the standing sight, partially missing on the folder. Typical fine bead front sight. Bore, chamber and rifling are excellent, with mild roughness in the grooves. Closer inspection reveals a repaired crack through the wrist. A good job was done of it, and it has held up well with no mechanical issues. A second barrel is included, 28” and chambered for 405 Winchester. No makers mark, but likely fitted in the US in the 1960’s. Fixed sights front and rear. The firing pin was professionally replaced and rebushed, by Keith Kearcher, to remedy primer extrusion with the 405 cartridges. This rifle has been recently fired, successfully, with both barrels: 20 rounds factory loaded 405 Winchester, and 100 rounds, hand loads, 375 Express. Weight 8 pounds 4 ounces. 14-¼” pull from serrated trigger blade, over the original, lightly engraved steel butt plate. Trigger breaks crisply at 4-½ pounds pull. Horn forend tip. Fine engraving, bolted/sliding safe. A set of 375 Express (375 2-1/2" Flanged) reloading dies are included with the rifle. Mechanically solid, smooth action, this rifle has lots of life ahead of it, ready for a new home. Pre-1898 mfg, Antique status. CA sales welcome. SOLD Antique: Yes |
