The rifle weighs 7 LBS 9 oz. LOP is 13 1/2". The bore is shiny and new in appearance. For many years, Steyr advertised the Mannlicher-Schönauer as the "World's Finest Rifle." Although they are basically a 110 year old design that has been out of production for over 50 years, legions of admirers think they still are. The 7x57 Mauser has been called the granddaddy of all modern center fire rifle cartridges. It was first introduced in 1892 for a bolt-action rifle and saw great service in the Second Boer War in South Africa. It also performed so well during the Spanish-American War against Teddy Roosevelt’s troops that its effectiveness convinced the U.S. War Department to begin development of its own new round, a cartridge which eventually became the .30-06 Springfield. In time, the 7X57 Mauser found its way into hunting fields around the world. The 7x57’s most famous proponent was none other than fabled elephant hunter Karamojo Bell, who favored it for brain shots on jumbo elephants. When John Rigby & Company began building rifles on Mauser 7x57 barreled actions a marketing decision was made to change the name of the metric chambering of 7MM to the English equivalent of .275”, hence 275 Rigby. Few rifle cartridges that are still available are more classic than the 7x57 Mauser. Price: $2250 for rifle and scope, $1950 for rifle, mount and rings only. Shipping $40 in CONUS.
