Mannlicher Schoenauer Model 1950 .270 Win
Description: This is a fine example of a Model 1950 which appears to be a Transition Model as the bolt handle is of the swept-back design that is featured on the Model 1952. The Model 1950 had the Butterknife Bolt Handle that pointed straight down. I have been told that the barrel is re-blued, though I was never told this when I purchased it and really never gave it a thought. The Butterknife Bolt Handle is blued. I did some research which shows that it was not common for the US models. They were usually in the white. However, Transition Models may well have had blued Bolt Handles, as was also seen on special order models. The wood has some handling marks, small dings here and there, which is to be expected on a rifle that's nearly 75 years old. There are no deep scratches nor gouges in the wood. The bore is excellent. Bright with well-defined lands and grooves. I have fired about twenty rounds through it and it's an excellent shooter. I really don't believe that it's seen much use. The swing-mount is made by Pachmayr and functions well. As you can see in the photos, it has a purplish hue to it. The scope is a vintage Weaver K6 that still has fine clarity. It has fine crosshairs. The double-set triggers functioned flawlessly. If you're looking for an absolutey flawless model, this is NOT the rifle for you. If perfection is what you want, be prepared to spend twice what I'm asking. If you'd like a beautiful old-timer, in excellent condition for it's age, that's got that sleek European look, and that shoots really well, you're in the right place--especially at this price. Payment will be in the form of a USPS Money Order or Certified Teller's Check (may take a couple of days to clear my bank). I will ship from my FFL Dealer to the FFL Dealer of your choice. Shipping cost is included in the price. I am adding the following information as of 2/21/26. I've re-listed this rifle after a buyer refused it stating "Gun Not As Described". He sent photos of very minor handling marks in the stock, which I had stated in the description were present. Then he sent a photo of the blued bolt, stating that the rifle was re-blued. When I phoned the Dealer to arrange for it to be shipped back to me, the gentleman said that it had been re-blued. When I pointed out that the1950 Transition models could have blued butterknife bolt handles, his comment was basically that it would explain the blued bolt handle. So, since the buyer refused to cover the meager $60 shipping fee that he was charged, I ate about $280 to have had it shipped round-trip via Fed-Ex. Having never been told anything about it having been re-blued when I purchased it, this really irritated me. So, a couple of days ago, I took the rifle to a very reputable gunsmith to have him evaluate it for me. I did not say anything regarding the bluing. He examined the rifle, even using magnification, and ran a borescope down the barrel. I told him that I had fired about twenty rounds through it and his comment was that he would be surprised if there were more than fifty to one hundred rounds ever fired from it. After he commented on how "fresh" the rifle was, I went ahead and asked if he felt it was a re-blue. Now, he really took his time going over it with magnification. He concluded that he could see no evidence of it having been re-blued. No marks under the bluing on the barrel that could have indicated pitting. The edges of the serial numbers and other small markings on the barrel still showed sharp edges. In many instances, the lettering is often a giveaway since the edges tend to round off in the polishing process. His conclusion was, that from a technical standpoint, he couldn't find a reason to believe that it was re-blued. He said that if it was, whoever did it was extremely professional. I state all of this in full disclosure. These rifles bring way more than I'm asking even when they're not in this kind of condition. What I'm asking for it is a steal for such a beautiful 74 year old rifle.
