Description: 1880s mfr. Antique J.M. MARLIN-BALLARD No. 3 Single Shot .22 Long Rifle Falling Block, 24” Octagonal Barrel, Nickel & Blue Here we present an antique J.M. Marlin Ballard No. 3 Rifle in .22 Long Rifle, made circa the late-1880s in New Haven, Connecticut. The Ballard design was utilized during the Civil War and retained a following after the conflict as it was simple and rugged. This rifle would have been great for putting small game on the table and for a little target practice. It features a 24 inch octagonal barrel with a crescent buttplate and walnut stock. The overall condition is very good+. Very nice nickel and blue finish. The front sight is by Sheard. The action is strong. The bore is bright with strong rifling. The stock shows use and there is a long, thin split along the grain on the right side that does not move; otherwise solid. A very neat and scarce Marlin-Ballard No. 3 in .22! Own the original!
