Rare Marlin Model 1888 Octagon Rifle, 38 W Caliber, Special Order
Description: Rare Marlin Model 1888 rifle in caliber 38-40 having a 26" full octagon barrel. Only 4818 of this model were made, and of those, only 264 had 26" barrels (standard length was 24"). Remainder of rifle is standard configuration of full magazine and crescent butt. Cody Museum info confirms configuration and shows a shipping date of June 5, 1889. Stocks are sound, no splits or cracks, no extra holes, never sanded or refinished and still tight to metal. Hammer and lever show traces of original case colors. Receiver is mostly patina with a mix of plum. Barrel is a deep plum with some brighter undertones of blue and mag tube has turned patina with some undertones of plum. Sights are original. Action is fine, hammer spring is strong, and half-cock safety functions properly. Bore is good with strong rifling, minor black powder oxidation, no rings or bulges, should shoot fine (I have not test-fired it and it should be checked by a competent gunsmith before shooting). Overall grades to antique very good. Copy of Cody sheet will accompany rifle. This was the last top eject model Marlin as the side ejection started with the Model 1889 very soon after this rifle was produced. Don't let this one get away!! No international sales. Antique by ATF standards so no FFL or C&R required unless your local laws require it, so make sure this is legal for you to purchase and own where you live. Will ship by USPS Priority Mail in a hard case with tracking for $65. Payment by bank check, money order, or discreet PayPal with a 4% surcharge. 3 day non-firing inspection. Buyer pays return shipping. Thanks for looking and please check my other listings.
