VERY FINE CONDITION MARLIN 1895 .38-56 ROUND BARREL RIFLE, #167XXX, MADE 1898
Description: VERY FINE CONDITION MARLIN 1895 .38-56 ROUND BARREL RIFLE, #167XXX, MADE 1898. This is a particularly fine example that still shows fairly vivid dark case colors on the receiver. The left side shows nearly full coverage while there is still good color on the receiver top and right side that is typically less toward the front of the loading gate where a right handed shooter normally carries the rifle. There is vivid color in all the more protected areas around the lever, hammer etc. and the lever shows some fine case color toward the front section. Fine blue on the loading gate and barrel with some minor freckling ageing of the blue. Nice blue on the magazine tube with some dulling and light mixing brown on the bottom. Fine stock and forearm with tight wood to metal fit. Original buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and Rocky Mountain blade front sight. Now, I always sat this when I advertise a .38-56... it is not similar to the much weaker straight cased .38-55 which only held about 45 grains of black powder. The .38-56 is a necked .45-70 case and held a full 56 grains of powder. It was quite a powerful cartridge and was used on larger game than the smaller .38-55. This one has a tight action, strong springs, good safety half-cock notch on the hammer and best of all a bright and excellent bore. One of the nicer ones I've seen especially since the Model 1895s are getting nearly impossible to find in any condition. SOLD Antique: Yes Rifle Caliber: .38-56 Winchester Manufacturer: MARLIN Model: 1895 Serial Number: 167XXX Barrel Length: 26" ROUND Condition: FINE+ Bore Condition: EXCELLENT |
