WILD WEST Era Antique MARLIN-BALLARD Single Shot FALLING BLOCK Rifle SCOPE
“GEO. C. SCHOYEN DENVER, COLO” Marked Rifle
Description: WILD WEST Era Antique MARLIN-BALLARD Single Shot FALLING BLOCK Rifle SCOPE “GEO. C. SCHOYEN DENVER, COLO” Marked Rifle Here we present an antique J.M. Marlin Ballard Falling Block Rifle made circa 1881-1891 in New Haven, Connecticut. This single shot .22 rifle is marked for Denver, Colorado gunsmith, dealer, and shooter George Schoyen, who lived and dealt there around the turn of the 20th Century. It is fitted with a “JOHN W. SIDLE/PHILA/1604 PA” marked scope on a “GEO. C. SCHOYEN DENVER, COLO.” marked barrel. The Ballard rifle is a single shot breechloading rifle with a falling block action. The internal components are contained in the breech block protect them from fouling and dirt. Marlin-Ballard rifles featured automatic extractors. Some models had double set triggers, which is considered by riflemen of the time to be of superior quality. The Ballard design was originally utilized during the Civil War and retained following the conflict as it was simple and rugged. Though Winchester Model 1866s and 1873s were the latest and greatest in firepower, the Ballard was the sidearm of many during this period characterized by conflict and westward expansion. The overall condition is good. Even brown patina. The stock and forend are replacements. This example is refinished. Legible markings. Strong action. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. Good scope with clear optics. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 24-1/8 inches. Caliber: .22 Long Rifle Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
